The 2023 growing season in the Adelaide Hills faced early challenges with wet conditions and disease management, but improved weather post-flowering and a cool autumn led to an extended ripening period, resulting in wines of exceptional quality with balanced acidity and vibrant fruit flavours.
The fruit was whole-bunch pressed, and the juice put straight into tight-grain French oak barrels. Ben’s goal is to highlight the complexity of barrel fermentation rather than the influence of new oak. After fermentation, the wine was left on lees for nine months. The wine exhibits a flinty, steely edge, with a medium bodied mouthfeel, while maintaining the purity of the fruit in both flavour and aroma.
