The Truant Shiraz

John William Riggs was born in Dorset 1814, and was the ‘Mr. Riggs’ – Ben’s great- great- great grandfather. This influential man was a person who didn’t think highly of the school curriculum, but often focused more on wagging school. He managed to wag school at the age of seven, then commenced working for a living at the rate of one shilling a week. This was however only a minor inconvenience for ‘The Truant’ who signed with an ‘X’.

The Shiraz used to make The Truant has been sourced from a number of select vineyards throughout McLaren Vale. With dominant winter rainfall and warm, dry summers of low humidity tempered by the proximity to the Gulf St. Vincent, McLaren Vale has one of the most consistent climates in which to grow premium grapes, particularly Shiraz.
